Swoope ~ Pull Ya Pants Up (Belt of Truth)

My good friend Alisha put me up on this dude. He's hitting on all cylinders, IMO.  Dope beats, witty lines, AND positive messages.  Can't argue with that.  Check it.

How I Got Over

On June 22, 2010, the Roots gift to us “How I Got Over”.  This is album number 11. They give us another nice addition to their discography. The gems include “The Day”, "Fire", “How I Got Over”, “Radio Daize”, and “Web 2.0”. Again, the Roots push the envelope and give us an album that is undeniably hip hop, but one that does stretch out to other genres of music. No, not in a forceful way either. Its subtle and well crafted. Instead of screaming out “Hey, we’re influenced by good music of all genres!”, its, “Hey, this is us and good music from all genres help shape us as a group!”. (Yes, both of those statements should be yelled at the top of the lungs.) This is not a classic Roots album by any stretch, but its definitely a nice addition to their already legendary catalog.  Below's a copy of the Pitchfork review of the album.  They seem to like it, too.

Jay Electronica Siting

If you're anything like me, you search the net for another heater by Jay Electronica siting. (He just won't drop an album!!). Anyway, there was a siting today. Found this on http://www.hiphopgame.com/ and its an interesting pairing with Paul Wall, Raekwon, and Yelawolf. I can dig it though.

"Fun" - Bahamadia produced by King Britt

If you like Bahamdia, this will be interesting to you.  I'm a big fan and think she's one of the best out there in the female category.  King Britt formerly of Digable Planets crafted the beat.  Her latest album, "Good Rap Music" is on iTunes.  If anyone's heard this album, let me know what's up.

Pharoahe Monch - "Shine"

This is something Pharoahe Monch posted to his Twitter today. I'm sure the rest of the upcoming album is this good. The new album is going to be called "W.A.R. (We Are Renegades)" and is supposed to be out this year. He's really slept on by too many people, so lets get the word out and support one of hip hop's most original emcees. Oh, and Diamond D is on the beat, so that's a bonus.

A Quick Look @ Bilal - "Airtight's Revenge"

Its been a minute since we've gotten a new album from Bilal.  Looks like in the near future, we'll have another offering to drool over from this unique artist.  The link is a peak at the artwork, a tracklisting, and includes another link with a track by track review of the album.  Shouts to http://www.okayplayer.com/ for the heads up.
