On June 22, 2010, the Roots gift to us “How I Got Over”. This is album number 11. They give us another nice addition to their discography. The gems include “The Day”, "Fire", “How I Got Over”, “Radio Daize”, and “Web 2.0”. Again, the Roots push the envelope and give us an album that is undeniably hip hop, but one that does stretch out to other genres of music. No, not in a forceful way either. Its subtle and well crafted. Instead of screaming out “Hey, we’re influenced by good music of all genres!”, its, “Hey, this is us and good music from all genres help shape us as a group!”. (Yes, both of those statements should be yelled at the top of the lungs.) This is not a classic Roots album by any stretch, but its definitely a nice addition to their already legendary catalog. Below's a copy of the Pitchfork review of the album. They seem to like it, too.
